Greenville’s Poinsettia Christmas Parade 2010

Saturday, December 4, 2010
Main Street from Augusta Street to North Street

Join the City of Greenville December 4 at 6 p.m. for the kick off of the holiday season with one of the most popular events of the year! The Poinsettia Christmas Parade will illuminate downtown Greenville with over 70 elaborately decorated floats, musical marching units and, of course, Santa Claus! This year, the City of Greenville will honor Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (GSP) Executive Director Dave Edwards, Jr. as the 2010 Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade Grand Marshal for his role in the arrival of Southwest Airlines to Greenville.

The parade night will kick off with a holiday music performance by the Greenville Chorale at 5:15 p.m. followed by the traditional tree lighting with Mayor Knox White at 5:30 p.m. in front of Design Strategies at 130 South Main Street.

Parade unit highlights include the Wells Fargo Stagecoach, a horse-drawn replica of a stagecoach from the Old West and Captain Sharky, a large plane carrying Southwest employees as well as members of the committee that helped bring Southwest Airlines to Greenville.

This year’s parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Augusta Street and end at the intersection of Main Street and North Street. Spectators will find ample places to view the parade along the route, with prime seating located from the Main Street Bridge south toward Falls Park. For a detailed map of the parade route, click here.

Throughout the parade site Blue Star Mothers, a non-profit organization supporting troops serving in the military, will set up several collection sites. Requested items for overseas troops include writing paper and envelopes; dental products such as mouthwash, toothbrushes and toothpaste; powdered drink mixes; dry food and snacks; board games; music; toiletries; pre-paid phone cards; reading material and seasonal items. A complete list of requested donation items is included and can also be downloaded here.

For additional information about the parade, please contact Will Young at wyoung@greenvillesc.gov or call 864-467-4484.

I’d like to see Greenville, SC in 3D on Google Earth. How cool would that be? I’d love to see the bridge. How to put Greenville in 3D on Google Earth. Imagine what you could do from a tourist or business development perspective. Now that Google Earth is viewable within the browser, would be visitors could walk our streets in 3D.
